By popular demand, we’re offering another translation workshop as our very last of 2026! Our Creative Contagion series brings together Kaya writers, translators, editors, and community members. We seek to create an accessible and open space to experiment, generate new work, and sow the seeds of new possibilities.
Translator as Editor with Ly Lan Dill – Saturday, November 21st from 11 am-1 pm pst / 2 pm-4 pm est via Zoom. Sliding fee scale $40-100. All proceeds go towards publishing and programming here at Kaya, an independent non-profit publisher.
Translator as Editor:
In this workshop, we’ll be taking an editorial eye to translations because translating is far more than finding equivalences. Through a series of intentional, highly nuanced decisions, we shape tone, rhythm, and voice. This hands-on workshop is designed for translators and literary enthusiasts eager to explore how subtle editorial choices can radically transform a translated text. Together, we will move beyond basic accuracy to analyze how rhythm, word order, register, and cultural context drive the reader’s experience. Please note that the facilitator has assigned light reading and prep work which will be shared upon registration.
Workshops are hosted on Zoom, open to writers and readers of all experience levels at a sliding fee scale. Sign up below and email info@kaya.com with any questions. After you sign up, you’ll receive a confirmation email and the private zoom link will be sent out three days before the workshop. All workshops will be recorded to be shared with registered participants only. We can’t wait to create with you!
