Kaya Press is thrilled to announce the official launch of Gene Oishi’s novel, Fox Drum Bebop!

Fox Drum Bebop is a retelling of the Japanese American narrative, a semi-autobiographical account of Gene Oishi’s own experiences during and after internment at a concentration camp. The author describes Fox Drum Bebop as his own way to “tell a story that was bigger than myself, to tell a tale about the Japanese in America.” Oishi’s earlier work In Search of Hiroshi, a memoir, was the basis for this new novel.

Last week in Baltimore a launch party was held for the book. Check out The Voice of Baltimore‘s write-up for the event!

“The most consistent intelligent wide-ranging committed press I know – Kaya is an example of how to turn ‘small’ books into literary arrows that shoot straight and true into the heart of our culture and (of course) ourselves.”
