Kaya Press is honored to be part of the Indie Shelves Initiative at Downtown L.A.’s The Last Bookstore, which launches this Saturday Nov. 3rd at 3 p.m. The Initiative creates dedicated shelf space for L.A. authors and independent publishing houses. We were chosen by local literary connector Mike the Poet, and our shelf will feature City Terrace Field Manual by Sesshu Foster, and Migritude by Shailja Patel.

Since re-locating Kaya to Los Angeles in the past year and a half, we’ve been especially excited to connect with the vibrant Los Angeles literary community, and this opportunity gives us a great chance to do so. We’ll be sharing the spotlight with other indie presses like A Barnacle Book, Gorsky Press, What Books/Glass Table Collective, and Slake. This Saturday’s launch event will feature readers from these presses, as well as Sesshu Foster.

If you can’t make the event, please stop by and check out The Last Bookstore, our books will be on special display there for the next few months, and you can find out about other local publishing companies. It is great to see this bookstore holding space for independent publishing and building community interaction.
